New Reels: ‘Our Love Is A Garden’ by Wilder Adkins

This week we look at the latest release from an American folk singer who slowly but surely is gaining the wider recognition he deserves.

Wilder Adkins comes out of Birmingham, Alabama via his hometown of Marietta, Georgia and time spent growing up in rural India of all places. He’s been peddling his dreamy, Nick Drake-esque acoustic folk songs for a while now without much recognition, his recent album Hope & Sorrow taking 3 years to record because according to him he kept running out of money.

The dedication he shows to his flowering craft is surely worth it though and ‘Our Love Is A Garden’ is simply gorgeous and an accomplished piece of songwriting. The video’s slow-burning blue monochrome perfectly complements the earthy mystery of the track itself, and is a triumph from budding director Marcus Tortorici.

Adkins may be new to you, and yes he’s new to us too, but if this is your bag then his back catalogue is well worth digging through.
