New Reels: ‘Steady’ by The Staves

The sibling folk-ish trio release a brand new video for their single ‘Steady’.

Emily, Camilla, and Jessica Stavely-Taylor are sisters from Watford, England who have been around for a few years now, releasing their first album Dead, Born & Grown in 2012. A long running association with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) led to him producing their second album If I Was which was released earlier this year and saw them add some slightly darker edges to their knowing mixture of European and North American folk stylings.

This single was also initially released earlier this year but has now acquired this video by director duo Brian & Karl. The video is compelling and yet utterly baffling, and if there’s some deeper meaning to it all then it eluded me. Which isn’t to say I don’t wholly recommend you try and work things out for yourself. I may well watch again myself…

Both ‘Steady’ and If I Was can be purchased from the Nonesuch website right here.
