In 1973, the UK joined the European Union, Richard Nixon was the President of the United States and announced and announced he was dialing down his offensive against North Korea, all this in the midst of the Watergate scandal. Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines declared himself President for Life, Northern Ireland held the referendum and voted to stay in the United Kingdom. Scary, right?
