The Tuesday Playlist No.41: She-Rappers

For this week’s 15-song collection we decided to celebrate female rappers old and..well…mainly old…

Because to be honest, we here at MVD like our hip-hop old-school. Must be an age thing I guess. That and the fact that we really don’t dig Nicki Minaj and her like. So included here is the mighty Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill from back when she could be bothered to use her considerable talents, the original Queen of hip-hop Roxanne Shante, Missy Elliott of course, rap-poetry from Sarah Jones and her predecessor Sarah Webster Fabio, Britain’s own pioneer Monie Love, and yes, we’ve also included Blondie’s ‘Rapture’ not because Debbie Harry’s rapping is all that (it isn’t) but because it’s a TUNE. Plus Salt N Pepa, Foxy Brown, MC Lyte and more…
