Tuesday Playlist No. 13: Unlucky for some, not so much for others

This week´s Tuesday Playlist is our number 13. Lucky 13! We chose 15 songs related to luck, superstition and the mystical number.  Among them, are artists like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, James Blake, Madonna and Stevie Wonder.

There are some people who consider No. 13 to be an unlucky number. Some think it is unlucky because there were 13 dinner guests at the last supper, in Norse mythology there are 12 Gods sitting having supper when an uninvited god shows up (Loki), the murder of the knights of the Templar took place on that date, and there are many reasons why the number 13 is considered unlucky. There is even a phobia with an unpronounceable name: Triskaidekaphobia (tris meaning “3”, kai meaning “and”, deka meaning “10” and phobos meaning “fear” or “morbid fear)…is there a phobia for having to say the phobia of number 13 out loud?

Although we have included some not so lucky songs on the playlist, for most of our song choices we have decided to focus on lucky 13, and the positive connotation of the number. In Italy the number is a good omen. The Aztecs considered thirteen to be a very sacred number. It represented time and completion, closure. An Aztec week lasted for thirteen days. The 13th Runic letter is  associated with  the tree of Life. We hope you enjoy our 15 song collection.
